Ivy Cottage Gazebo
Ivy Cottage Gazebo
Creating a
truly round structure poses challenges, distinct from segmented forms. While
posts and braces employ square section materials, curved top plates and purlins
are essential. This design incorporates Western Red Cedar (WRC) shakes over a
sarking boarded roof. An inverted stainless steel T flitch secures the
structure against strong winds. Oak sarking boards rest over rafters, serving
as the base for nailed Cedar shakes. Rafters fit between the purlin and roof
apex, with a hexagonal boss uniting the rafters at the apex and commons cut in
between. Notably, purlins feature both loose keyed joints and housing into the
main rafters, illustrating careful detailing.
